Timothy P. McCartney is the director of Aeronautics at NASA’s Glenn Research Center in Cleveland. In this capacity, he is responsible for the project management, workforce planning, budget oversight, and executive leadership of Glenn’s aeronautics research and development activities in support of the agency’s Aeronautics Research Mission Directorate. Immediately prior to his appointment, he served as the acting deputy director of Aeronautics at NASA Glenn.
Prior to his assignment in aeronautics leadership, McCartney served as chief of the Advanced Aircraft Project Office, supervising a team of project managers and researchers tasked with cutting-edge aeronautics research. He was also responsible for management and leadership of numerous research projects in close collaboration with other NASA aeronautics research centers and government agencies. This work included a year spent serving as Glenn’s liaison to the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio. There, McCartney was key to strengthening the strategic partnership between NASA and AFRL through collaborative research and development opportunities.
McCartney is the recipient of numerous awards, including the NASA Outstanding Leadership Medal and the NASA Glenn Research Center Distinguished Publication Award. He has earned a bachelor’s degree in computer engineering and master’s degrees in electrical engineering and business administration from Cleveland State University.
